dc.description.abstract | This report focuses on the effects the Norwegian Armed Forces combat aircraft may have on the operational and
strategic level. Special emphasis is put on how the combat aircraft may contribute to handling the politically determined
tasks of the Armed Forces, and also how these platforms may be used within the framework of the existing theories of
military force.
The theories of military force describe possible methods to handle the Armed Forces tasks that include the threat of
using military force and the actual use of such force. Among other factors these theories are based on what targets that
can be attacked to achieve the desired effects. Therefore these theories also describe which levels of military operations
that combat aircraft should focus upon. One conclusion drawn in the report is that Norway should focus military power
on the operational rather than on the strategic level, both because of ethical ramifications, as well as the present
organisation of the defence forces being geared towards operations on the operational level. | en_GB |
