Dispersion simulation for CBRNE accident coordination training
Abstract
FFI has developed a virtual training system that can be used to train incident leaders and responders in the
mitigation of accidents involving hazardous substances. The virtual training system was successfully used
during a course for training incident leaders held by the Norwegian Civil Defence, in which the scenario
involved leakage of ammonia gas from a tanker truck after a collision. High-fidelity data of the dispersion of
the gas was simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics and fed into the training system.
In this note, we describe the numerical simulations of the gas dispersion, and the processing of the data
necessary to incorporate the dispersion data into the training system. Some insights into the resulting hazard
areas at different meteorological conditions and type of hazardous material are also given.
